In The Know: Bravestation

It had been a while since we’d heard any big news from the boys in Bravestation. Then they released a new single. And then the music blog-o-sphere sort of exploded. The track, “Signs of the Civilized,” was released last Monday and it’s our first look into what’s to come from their upcoming debut full length.

My first reaction was…well, honestly my first reaction was, “Heck yes! New Bravestation tune!” But after a few more listens (and I’ve given it a lot of listens) I was just so excited to hear how much they’ve grown and honed their sound. When they released their 2010 EP back in, well, 2010, the quartet garnered comparisons to greats like Foals and Yeasayer. As amazing as that is, this new track makes clear that Bravestation is a band with the strength to stand alone.

The song hits hard at first only to (pleasantly) surprise you by bringing it down a few notches for a smooth track full of their signature synth layers. But the single doesn’t just bring the dreamy “tribal pop” that fans love; this song has got some groove that will definitely get your fingers snapping and your head swaying. And that’s all topped off with Devin Wilson’s vocals that are nothing short of stand-out.

And just like a solid single should be, the track is paired up with some great artwork that comes courtesy of vocalist, Devin. The image has a vast, dreamy feel that accompanies the song perfectly. Hopefully we’ll see more like it when the album is released later this year.
