New Hands: Ben Munoz

SupaPHAT.

So, I’m going to venture from the topic of music since Evan and Pat did a pretty good job of covering that in their posts… Here it goes:

I have never lived in Toronto. However, I know many people that do. As a result, I have a very strong connection with the city. Although not as well as a native Torontonian, I’ve come to know the city pretty well, and maybe even love it just as much. So for this post I’m going to write about one of the best times I’ve had in Toronto and hopefully shine light on something I think is more than deserving of the attention.

I met Evan and Gordy (two of the five studs that are in New Hands) in high school and, naturally, meeting them meant meeting their friends, one in particular being Nathan Darby. Ever since I’ve known Nathan he has been hosting ridiculous parties and planning events just to get everyone together. Moving to Toronto a few years ago only gave him more of a reason to go all out and have everyone get together for a big party every once in a while. You may have just read ‘all out’ and thought “Okay… he gets into it, he likes to host parties.” No. I mean he goes ALL OUT.

For example, this past Valentine’s Day he had a party where he decked his place out in over 200 life-sized cardboard stereos he made himself. The next time, he turned his living room into an underwater world complete with everything from a bubble machine to seaweed hanging from the ceiling. I’m going to stop describing the parties though because only pictures will do them justice.

Nathan continues to set the bar higher and higher with each party. In the past he has only hosted these parties at his place for close friends but recently he is working on bringing his parties to the public under the name Supaphat Enterprises. I highly recommend you attend one of his events, if you get the chance. Some of the best times I’ve had in Toronto have been at his parties.

You can check out his blog for updates as to when the next event will be and more photos (and videos) from past events. Try and spot a New Hand, Where’s Waldo style!
