Rae Drake #2

The city’s outdoor pools are open this weekend, which means that both bikini and pool hopping season are officially underway. Catching the springtime sun in the park or on a friend’s rooftop is always wonderful, but nothing beats being able to sunbathe beside a body of water that you can jump in. Here’s a round-up of sun, swim, and summer ideas for the coming week.

1. Soak up the sun in retro graphic prints like in this 1971 photograph by Patrick Lichfield.
2. End at least one summer date by pool hopping and recreate this photograph by Matthew Tammaro.
3. Cover up with a vintage tunic or kaftan from Chosen Vintage like Veruschka does in this 1968 photo by Franco Rubartelli.
4. Bring your inner mermaid to the outdoor pool by learning how to fishtail braid with this video.
5. Check out city-cool, yet cottage-friendly Toronto swimsuit label, Minnow Bathers.
6. Dream about retiring to a summer than never ends while looking at these these Peter Granser photographs of sun-soaked seniors.
7. Before all the kids get out of school, take the ferry and spend the afternoon playing footsies on Ward’s Island.
8. Skinny dip, alone.
9. Find a new or vintage floppy hat, and protect your ombre hair, like in this 1968 photograph.
10. Don’t have a unique pair of sunglasses like these Elsa Schiaparelli ones?  DIY a cheap pair with plastic flowers or toys.
