DEPICT: T.O. Opening

Last Thursday we launched our first collaborative photography show with huge success. OTM teamed up with Lomography Canada to provide six up and coming photographers from Toronto with five different Lomography cameras. We asked each of them to photograph the way they perceive and identify with Toronto and what they came up with was truly stunning, we were completely blown away.

Each photographer explored wildly different themes and their own unique style came through perfectly in the images they presented. Matthew Tammaro photographed beautiful abstract images of the Toronto landscape and waterfront, contrasted by Patrick Moore‘s photos where he chose to step away from portraits and take on the stark cityscape and skylines. Using long exposures and experimenting with light leaks, Patrick hauntingly captured the stillness of Toronto at night.

Gemma Warren emulated small details of her life with perfectly dreamlike colours that made you feel like you were biking alongside her as she took each one. Michael Raymond Clarke chose to photograph black and white stills centred around the C.N. Tower, which was an interesting subject to choose to photograph on his Action Sampler.

Steph Martyniuk chose to photograph candid and emotive personal interactions throughout several Toronto neighbourhoods. Finally, Othello Grey juxtaposed dark images with the city light, toying with the idea that each moment may not have really been there.

From 7 p.m and on wards, the Lomography Gallery Store on Queen St was packed with friends, family, and many new faces. The photographs were complimented by music from the House of Young Empires DJs and plenty of wine and beer from House Wine Co. and Mill St.

We’re so grateful for everyone who came out to celebrate with us and couldn’t be more proud of the exceptionally talented photographers that participated. With every event we learn more about the buzzing community of artists in Toronto. We never cease to be inspired by them. For those that will attend in the coming week, be sure to catch a glimpse of these fabulous series’ of work before November 3, 2011.
