Two Geniuses: Sam Cotter & Fraser McCallum

When: 1/11/2012 | Where: IMA Gallery | Time: 6:00pm | What: Opening Reception for Two Geniuses: An ‘exposition’ following histories of display and exhibition practices, Two Geniuses draws from 19th and 20th century notions of masculinity. Assuming genius characters, Cotter and McCallum posit themselves as men of art and science, governed by reason and proud to a fault. Two Geniuses draws on traditions in anthropology, scientific photography, and modern painting to create an exposition critical of representation and masculinity. Sam Cotter and Fraser McCallum are two recent graduates of Photography Studies at Ryerson University. Their practices are multidisciplinary, and they frequently collaborate. Cotter and McCallum are interested in visual representation and relationships between art and culture.
