(Love) That Kind Of Trailer

Since interviewing Ana Alic for OTM’s fall issue, I’ve been eager to finally see the short film she had so proudly referred to as her baby. Alic wrote, produced and starred in the film, titled (Love) That Kind Of. So far all we have is this drop-dead beautiful trailer, which will definitely keep us happy until the film’s official release later this year.

(Love) That Kind Of is a love story about a young girl stuck in a negative relationship who spends her nights dreaming about an imaginary prince charming who offers her the love and affection she craves.

The film jumps between the protagonist’s real life – fights with her boyfriend before bed, a generally frustrating atmosphere – and the dream world that she escapes to during sleep. Those are the shots that stay with the viewer, thanks to hazy romantic lighting and bright, saturated colours. Alic looks gorgeous and so do the boys she spends time holding hands with. Overall, the trailer promises a visually pleasing film that turns Toronto into a charming, magical oasis.

It’s sweet, poignant, and above all honest – much like Alic herself. We’ve all been through rough emotional patches in our relationships, be it with boyfriends, friends or family. And though this film is short, (Love) That Kind Of perfectly captures the utopian reverie we sometimes resort to for an escape from reality.
