Studio 407

After their opening show showcasing work of several OTM alumni, we decided it’s about time to introduce the best new gallery space for up and coming artists that Toronto has to offer. We asked co-founder Andrew Williamson to describe what Studio 407 is and where they plan to lead it in the future. We thought it would be best if he described it himself in order to get the exact message across, and he was happy to do it:

“Studio 407 is a creative loft space, gallery and studio, in the centre of Toronto’s Entertainment District. Since getting the space at the beginning of September, Stephen Brule, current Ryerson exchange student from Edinburgh Ania Mokrzycka and myself have organized our first group photography show showing the work of over 20 photographers and 2 video artists. After the success of our first show, we are currently working on a few exciting low key shows coming up. Going forward, we are planning on making the space available to those who are interested in curating what may be their first gallery show. We really want to have a space that we can use as a launch pad to bring attention to emerging artists and are open to brining the ideas of our peers to life. We are trying to break the rules of more traditional galleries and offer a really inviting and different experience. In our first show we let our photographers literally write their names on the wall, hang work without frames and didn’t make them pay any expenses or hanging fees. We even offered them unlimited free drinks.”

It doesn’t get more real than that. Check out some pictures of their first event below.

We can’t wait to see what Stephen, Ania & Andrew have coming up in the future. Be sure to keep your eyes on our blog for details of any upcoming events they will be hosting.
