Snowblink Album Release Show

Watching a performance in the Music Gallery makes you feel like you’re witnessing something really special. No one tries to hide that the venue is, in fact, a church – that’s really part its charm after all. Decorative beams line the ceiling, concert-goers sit in the wooden pews, and musicians play on a red carpeted “stage” in front of an ornate stained glass window. And as a room specifically designed to make sure all in attendance can hear every word that’s spoken from that stage, it made for the perfect venue for Snowblink to celebrate the release of their sophomore album, Inner Classics.

But before the pair took the stage, Laurie Brown, host of CBC radio show The Signal, went up to make a more than appropriate introduction. Playing off both the venue and one of the standout tracks from Inner Classics, Brown asked everyone to bow their heads as she said a “Prayer for Surf”.

Daniela Gesundheit and Dan Goldman entered the room to a huge applause. But the crowd went silent and was all ears once the first note was played. Gesundheit’s voice filled the room with goosebump inducing power from the very start and didn’t waver once. “Best Loved Spots” was definitely my own personal highlight. But their entire performance, and I promise I’m not exaggerating, was memorable. What with violins, a set full of breathtaking tracks and, again, the perfect atmosphere, it’s no surprise that Snowblink were shining that night.
